Extra Credit

Overview
Extra-Credit work is due by the specified deadline per quarter and is averaged as a percentage grade with Quiz/Review.  You are given an opportunity for extra-credit to serve as enrichment for concepts taught in class.However, the grades do affect your overall average and may be useful if you had done poorly on a particular assignment.

The maximum of 10 points may be earned, unless you choose an individual project that is worth more than that.  In the case of a higher point project, you can earn the maximum of the total points of that project.

Fourth quarter extra-credit should be started earlier in the year to provide enough time to complete the tasks.

This is calculated by multiplying the total number of extra-credit points by the total of Quiz/Review Assignments for that quarter.

EXTRA CREDIT

1st QUARTER
(Due before Halloween) 10 points MAXIMUM except videos

UNIT 1

• The Great Benchmark Quest 2 Benchmarks (max. credit 10 pts)

UNIT 2

• Mass of granite school sign(5 pts)
• Create a 5-10 minute Earth science video that teaches a concept or skill for use on this website(15 pts)

(Due before Christmas Break) 10 points MAXIMUM except videos

UNIT 3

• Set up Earth science class recording Seismograph and monitor (5 pts)
• Create a 5-10 minute Earth science video that teaches a concept or skill for use on this website(15 pts)

3rd QUARTER
(Due before March 31st) 10 points MAXIMUM except videos

UNIT 4

• Create a 5-10 minute Earth science video that teaches a concept or skill for use on this website(15 pts)

UNIT 5

• Create a 5-10 minute Earth science video that teaches a concept or skill for use on this website(15 pts)

UNIT 6

• Create a 5-10 minute Earth science video that teaches a concept or skill for use on this website(15 pts)
• Complete 3 weeks of video forecasts(15 points)

4th QUARTER
( Due before June 1st) 15 points MAXIMUM except videos

UNIT 6

• Create a 20 minute or more Earth science documentary video that teaches a concept or skill for use on this website(50 pts)
• Students As TV Meteorologists - Complete 3 weeks of video forecasts (15 extra-credit points)
  • (1 pt each day - 5 auditions/trials and 10 "Live" - on-the-web forecasts must ALL be completed to receive credits)
  • INCOMPLETE NUMBER OF FORECASTS RECEIVE NO CREDIT - You must complete all 15 forecasts (5 trial and 10 online)

UNIT 7

• Create a 20 minute or more Earth science documentary video that teaches a concept or skill for use on this website(50 pts)

UNIT 8

• Create a 20 minute or more Earth science documentary video that teaches a concept or skill for use on this website(50 pts)

UNIT 9

• Create a 20 minute or more Earth science documentary video that teaches a concept or skill for use on this website(50 pts)

*Max 2 extra credit assignment per quarter
