Unit 1 Earth Dimensions
NYSSLS Performance Expectations (Objectives)
• HS-ESS2-2: Analyze geoscience data to make the claim that one change to Earth's surface can create feedbacks that cause changes to other Earth systems.
• Note: Most Unit 1 content (coordinate systems, map reading, time zones) is foundational knowledge supporting other standards but not directly assessed as separate PEs.
Extraneous Content (No Longer Required)
• Detailed calculations of Earth's circumference using Eratosthenes' method
• Memorization of specific latitude/longitude of major cities
• Complex time zone calculations (reduced emphasis)
